WHAT IS HACKACITY?
Hackacity is a one-of-a-kind hackathon that explores the potential of open city data to develop solutions that will impact the community.

Since 2016, 5 Hackacity editions have been held in Porto. As the city works its datasets and gets further in the decision-making support, the hackatons become more and more challenging.

The need to improve mobility KPIs and traffic flow simulation through a holistic approach.
Solution:
A time series analysis by comparing KPIs, such as air pollution index, traffic flow city center and surroundings, pedestrian accidents, which compares reality before and after implementing mobility measures meant to reach traffic flow regression in Porto.
The greatest obstacle to carbon neutrality in Porto is the traffic congestion.
Solution:
A combination between park and ride and carpooling concepts, made possible through a dashboard aimed for the municipality to check real-time traffic conditions and calculates how many carpoolings are needed, and where the ideal meeting points should be placed to get to the ideal traffic flow.
Poor air quality, inefficient traffic route optimization and a high percentage of the population using personal cars on a daily basis.
Solution:
A tool called GreenGoFlow.ai! that helps organize events in Porto to improve air quality by reducing particles and CO2 emissions that naturally occur in moments like these. This tool chooses certain streets to block or constrain changing traffic lights according to traffic flow via predictive models and mathematical optimization.

Hackacity is open to both data enthusiasts and data science professionals, 18 years or older. If you fill these requirements, this event is perfect for you! Keep in mind that your team will need some experience (academical, professional, hobby, etc.) for solving the challenge within a short period of time.
No, the registration and participation in Hackacity are free of charge.
We will only accept team registrations but if you want to participate and don’t know anyone, write us an email and we’ll see if we can help you!
Teams must have between 3 and 5 elements.
The first phase of registrations will close at 11:59 PM (GMT+1), 29th September 2023. If after that date, we still have spots, we will open a second registration phase which will close at 11:59 PM (GMT+1), 10th November 2023.
Hackacity is a great opportunity for peer networking, improving your skills, winning prizes, and making some awesome memories. 🙂
The event will take place on the 24th November 2023 in Porto. The venue will be Museu do Carro Elétrico.
We’ll be providing you with lunch, coffee breaks and drinks at the end of the event.
A good mood, humour and eagerness to learn are welcome! Also, anything you expect to use to solve the challenge (laptop, tablet, etc.).
You do! The team that develops the project is the owner and author of the project and IP. Nevertheless, the Hackacity organisation may use your solutions for promotional purposes and might want to implement your solution. In that case, you and your team will be contacted first.
